The Trails at Fontanel is a 2.6 mile loop just north of Nashville near Whites Creek, Tennessee. It begins with a large field and immediately crosses a creek. We passed a father with his two daughters on the creekbed who say they come often and successfully find fossils! Once you pass the creek, you enter the trailhead under a small shelter marking the path. There are benches along the way and it's easy enough to do two loops and enjoy the forest views. We went in March and it was EXTREMELY muddy and wet but passable with boots. We spotted an owl in the trees, which was a fun highlight.
Note: Dogs are also able to use this trail.
