Baltimore Area Spots Perfect for Adventuring with Little Kids.

Port Discovery

Port Discovery is an absolute must-see if you're in Baltimore. The huge children's museum (80,000 square feet!) is like a science center, a playground, a water park, and a craft studio all rolled into one. Explore ancient Egypt, serve up breakfast in a kid-sized diner, or fill 'er up at a fully loaded convenience store and gas station. The facility is just as impressive (and fun) for parents as it is for kids!

The National Aquarium

The aquarium in Baltimore is truly one of the best aquariums in the U.S. With five floors of exhibits, you can easily spend a whole day here. Kids will love getting face to face with dolphins, taking a walk through Shark Alley, visiting the Australian outback, and getting hands-on with the touch tanks in the Living Seashore.

Federal Hill Park

This park offers the best views in Baltimore. Situated atop the famous Federal Hill, the pirate-themed playground will delight the little ones. The adults in the crowd will enjoy the spectacular views of the inner harbor below!

Orange Grove Area at Patapsco Valley State Park

Orange Grove is one of our favorite hikes in Baltimore for any age group, but it's particularly great for little kids. The area offers a variety of hikes that are all perfect for little legs. Families can hike short distances and see waterfalls, a swinging bridge and the ruins of an old mill. The area also offers plenty of bathrooms, picnic tables and playgrounds. Just make sure to arrive early, Orange Grove is a popular spot and can fill up quickly!

Hightopps Backstage Grille

If you’d like to check out a restaurant that will delight both the kids and the adults, we recommend Hightopps. The outdoor seating area features “The Beach”, a sandy playground area that is perfect for keeping little ones entertained. The food is delicious and you’ll actually be able to finish your meal while the kids run and climb!

Irvine Nature Center

Irvine offers the perfect combination of outdoor exploration and indoor fun. The nature center has great, hands-on exhibits where kids can learn about the plants and animals that call Maryland home. Families can also enjoy picturesque hikes through the forests and streams that make up the 200-acre grounds.

Katie Raspa
Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
