outdoor-adventures, hikes, run

Tregaron Conservancy truly offers an oasis of nature and peace in the middle of the city.

Located in the Woodley Park neighborhood, adjacent to the Washington International School's campus, this 13-acre woodland park of mulched trails, rustic stone staircases, and trees offers the perfect spot to go for a walk as a family.

The Bridle Path trail can accommodate a sturdy stroller, or you can opt for the Lower Macomb Stream Trail which is not as stroller-friendly. Both trails are meandering and easy for the littlest or newest walkers, with just enough elements, like a stone Grand Staircase and stepping stone path, to keep the kids entertained and interested.  Any of the trails - which comprise a loop - will eventually lead you to the lily pond where there are benches so that you can take a rest and give the kids a chance to explore the pond area. The Meadow Trail at the top end of the loop meanders along the ridge of a meadow, which provides another area for the kids to run! While you will still have buildings within eyesight, this little gem will let you get some fresh air and exercise in a beautiful environment.

The Tregaron Conservancy is also adjacent to the Klingle Valley Trail, which is a paved bike trail if you wanted to bring a scooter or continue your walk on a paved path. Leashed dogs are also welcome to join the family excursion!  There are two main entrances to the park:

  • Macomb Street Entrance, 3100 Macomb Street, NW: gate located just east of the Washington International School’s driveway, one long block west of Connecticut Avenue NW. Follow the path, turn left up the side of the driveway, and follow signs to the Conservancy’s trails.
  • Klingle Road Entrance, 3000 block of Klingle Road, NW (GPS address: 3031 Klingle Road NW): gate located just east of the intersection of Klingle and Woodley Roads NW.

You can also enter from the Klingle Valley Trail and lock your bike at the bike rack at the entrance while you take a walk.

Hungry after all that walking? Jetties Macomb is right down the street from the Macomb entrance! Their sandwiches and pizzas never disappoint. 2Amys is also right there and is one of our favorite pizza locations in the city! If you are in need of a playground, Macomb Playground and Recreation Center is also a few blocks away! If you need to cool down after all that walking there is a splash pad at the park.
