A playground perfect for all abilities to enjoy!

Newly updated in 2020, Veterans Memorial Park in Commerce City is wonderful. I have been learning a lot about inclusive playgrounds and unfortunately, also have found how few playgrounds actually fit that description. This park does with its rubber surfacing, ramps throughout and it is a perfect addition to this area of Colorado.

The playground at Veterans Memorial Park is spread across a huge space with elements for all ages and abilities. There is a small play structure for younger kids with my six-year old’s favorite spot…monkey bars she can actually reach! It is getting too difficult to lift her to the high bars, so I loved the low monkey bars too! The larger play structure is accessible with ramps and has many sensory elements mixed in. We had the most fun in the “sway fun” moving boat and the rolling bar slide. There was also an animal tracks scavenger hunt!

There are many fun extras at the playground as well. We immediately noticed (and then had trouble leaving) the “We Go Round,” a merry go round designed for sitting, standing, pushing and you can roll a wheelchair right on. Also, there are a number of musical features, swings (traditional, baby, chair) and a large rope climbing structure.

Just a short walk from the playground is a nature play area with a sandbox, climbable logs and a large boulder. And another short walk from there is the Veteran’s Memorial. It is a great way to let your kids experience history and pay tribute to our soldiers.

Things to Know: There is a restroom facility available as well as multiple pavilions making it the perfect spot to meet friends and hang out for lunch.
