If you and your kids love treats, we know just the place for you.  VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland is recognized as one of the most iconic doughnut destinations of all time. With unique flavors and artistic aesthetics, no donut will go unnoticed.  I was lucky enough to be staying only a block away from the VooDoo Donut in the Buckman neighborhood, where I quickly became a daily customer. My personal favorites were the Portland Cream and the Rasberry Romeo, but my mouth still waters when I even think of any flavor variety.  Prices start fairly low at only $0.75 which makes it hard to say no to. You can purchase them in bulk as well, which is what many people seem to do (you’ll notice the pink boxes around town). The Buckman VooDoo Doughnut has a small indoor space, but there are arcade games, a photo booth, and tons of unique and exciting artistic additions such as a bench made out of a coffin!  Walk out back to the Buckman field playground where you can enjoy a modest playground set up or picnic in the large grassy area.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
