Walnut Creek Metropolitan is a great park for hiking, biking, and running with your dogs too!
With miles of largely paved hiking routes, this North Austin park is the perfect place to load up the stroller or grab your bike and head out for some cardio. Located on nearly 300 acres in North Austin (just off far North Lamar Blvd), Walnut Creek is a lovely getaway from town without actually having to leave town. Due to its size, the park also offers off-roading – think thin dirt trails and creek crossing – for those looking to go on a bit more of an adventure.
Like many parks in Austin, this one is incredibly dog-friendly and some areas are zoned for off-leash play. While many of the dogs there are friendly and well-behaved, it's worth noting in case you or you have children with you who get anxious around pups. It also means mud and mess aren’t uncommon. Maps found around the park will help you identify what areas are off-leash and what are not.
If hiking isn't your thing, Walnut Creek also features a pool, a playground for both little and bigger kids, and several sports fields for baseball, volleyball, and basketball.
