A fun play space to enjoy before or after visiting the zoo or any time of day.
Located in the northwest corner of the Woodland Park area, the West Woodland Park and Playground features a sandbox, two sets of swings, a challenging rope climbing structure, and two play structures.
The first play structure has a spiral slide, steps, rock climbing, fireman's pole, ladder, and interactive play stations. The other play structure has two small slides, steps, and climbing. The climbing challenge course has a rope dome with several obstacles to tackle. This is great for elementary-age kids. My kids always seem to gravitate toward the spiral maze (which is also wheelchair-friendly) for a view from the top.
The playground area is filled in with mulch and has mature trees surrounding the area for shade throughout the day. The sandpit is always a hit with the kids. Bring some sand toys to play with. Another way to enjoy the space is to bring a picnic to enjoy some open green spaces or sit under the trees. There are several benches and picnic tables as well around the playground area.
Throughout Woodland Park, there are paved walkways. This is great for taking a long walk, running, or stroller push around this large beautiful space. Take a walk over to the Sensory Garden for therapeutic sensory displays to enjoy. You can head across Aurora Avenue to walk in and around the trees for a lovely nature walk. It's a nice way to escape the city but still stay within the city!
West Woodland Park and Playground is a great space to come before or after the zoo or anytime in between. Check out some of the local eateries nearby, like Fresh Flours for breakfast goodies or Windy City Pie to take home.
