Explore the Lesser Seen Side of the Panhandle in the Coastal Forests!

In the "off" season on the Florida panhandle, a walk in the coastal forest is gorgeous, peaceful, and an interesting change in scenery.  The Grayton Beach Hiking and Biking trail is a fantastic way to explore the other side of the panhandle.  There are beautiful and tall pine trees, sandy pathways, "old man's beard" or deer moss, and smaller palmed plants along this route.

The good news for families is that it's flat, has multiple routes that can be long and short, and there are plenty of diversions - pine cones, pine straw, moss, and leaves to keep your kids interested and distracted.  We did a 2.5 mile route but if you go all the way to the lake (see the map), you can make it a 4.5 mile loop.

Bikes are fine, but you'll need tires that can handle the sandy paths.  It's typically not very crowded and has a good amount of shade.

Note: this is not in the boundary of Grayton Beach State Park.  You'll park on a pullover just before the Grayton Beach State Park.  Putting in "Grayton Beach Hike & Bike Trail" into Google Maps worked for us.
