State of the Art, Adaptive Playground with Waterfront Trails to Explore!

White Bank Park in Colonial Heights, VA, is home to one of the most modernized, unique playgrounds we have seen! It was created through the Maddie Mann Foundation so ALL children, regardless of abilities or backgrounds, could play together.

This playset is truly a dream for children. There are musical instruments, including an oversized xylophone, and interactive games that test memory play musical notes. There are two big kid swings, two baby swings, and two adaptive swings with buckles.  We also appreciate the sign language letter board and the display saying "Hello" in various languages. You really cannot find a more inclusive place to play!

There are pavilions on either side of the playground. And, the bathrooms are beside the playground, as well.  We love the large Little Free Library you can browse -- it is to the right of the playground. If you walk a bit behind the playground, there are small sandpits, but they do not have toys, so bring your own buckets and shovels!

My kids rarely want to leave the playground, but there are trails that are fun to explore, too. Walking to the waterfront area and looking out to the docks is .25 miles from the playground. We walk across the grass and up the stone steps. Be aware that the stone steps are uneven, and use caution with your little ones. The water views from the dock are gorgeous; however, stay vigilant, as there is no railing or any barrier between the dock and the water.  This walk is NOT stroller-friendly. You would have to go through the parking lot with a stroller versus using the grass and stone steps.

Although this park has pretty much everything you could want, I would suggest bringing: sunblock as it is full sun, sand toys as mentioned above, horseshoes if you want to play at the pits on the way to the trails.
