Enjoy Ice skating and nature-inspired lights on the trail at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.

During the winter, the Whitewater Center shuts down the whitewater rafting and puts an ice skating rink around a portion of it. The rink is 17,000 square feet of ice with an Airstream in the middle serving hot and cold beverages. There is a loop around the ice that you can follow to skate and a fenced area for those learning their ice skating legs. When you need a break from skating, you can enjoy the Lights, which is a half-mile long walking trail through the woods that leads guests through a nature-inspired immersive light installation. Designed by local artist Meredith Connelly, the Lights include 173 separate sculptures in 15 different installations throughout the trail. You will find natural features including a honeycomb, streams, roots, birds' nests, and more. The trail is wide and flat enough for jogging strollers to make it through.

The Rivers Edge restaurant is open for sit-down dining along with the Trail Center near the ice skating rink. There are also quick bites such as soups, spuds, shareables, and desserts at the Trail Centers outside serving area. They even have adult beverages and hot cocoa and cider for the kids.

Skate rental is a part of the ticket purchase, and socks are required. If you forgot socks, you can purchase some in Outfitters. I would recommend calling ahead or coming to see the rink to see how busy the ice skating is.
