WOW! Museum is truly a World of Wonders.

One of our favorite places to go on snowy days, or those crazy hot summer days, is the WOW! World of Wonders Children’s Museum in Lafayette, CO. We prefer WOW! over other indoor museums because it is a manageable size while still having a large variety of exhibits. You won’t feel rushed and can always move to a new area if it gets crowded.

Our favorite exhibit is the Forest of Light. The room is dark but contains what I can only describe as a huge Lite Brite, an interactive river and a giant pin wall. It is a wonderful place for sensory play. Another area of the museum that all of the kids run to is the pirate ship and lighthouse. What better way to encourage imagination than to climb aboard the ship and start sailing!

Additional exhibits include a clinic (where they can learn about the human body, pretend to be the doctor and visualize the amount of sugar in various drinks), bank, market, art space and wind area. Your children will love standing in a giant bubble and riding to the ceiling on a pulley chair. Finally, there is an area outside as well with a garden area, educational opportunities and nature play.

When you leave, take a stroll down Public Road. The town of Lafayette has a wonderful art walk where you can see sculptures and pieces from local artists.

Things to Know:

Reservations are currently required and no food or drinks beyond a water bottle are allowed. There is a snack area that should open again once COVID restrictions are lifted though. No WIFI is available.

Looking to extend your day of fun? There are two fantastic playgrounds not too far away! The closest is Silver Creek Park (612-566 Starline Ave, Lafayette, CO 80026). Your children will absolutely love this chicken farm-themed playground with its chicken and egg scavenger hunt, tall slide and zipline! Also, nearby is Erie’s Crescent Park where your kids can race through the seven-piece challenge course.
