Alternative Fuel Coffeehouse has incredibly delicious sandwiches and freshly-brewed coffee that you definitely won't want to miss!
We actually dropped in here as a last-minute stop on our way out of town, and we were all so glad we did. Though they're known for their delicious, fresh smoothies, I had a hungry crew on my hands, so we opted for hearty breakfast sandwiches. The food and coffee were so good, by the time I tasted it all, I literally wanted to turn around and drive right back to Rapid City for more!
The breakfast sandwiches were some of the very best we had in South Dakota and they really filled us all up for our long drive home. They had fun and creative coffee flavors, and the latte itself was really super tasty, which is, of course, very important to a busy, road-tripping mom. The customer service was great, and I enjoyed chatting with a friendly staff member for a short while about the shop. It's always a nice bonus to deal with outgoing and warm people when you're grabbing food in a place that is new to you. I also love that this coffee shop is family-owned and operated, and has been a fixture in Rapid City for over fifteen years. I strive to support family-run businesses, so it is a definite bonus for me every time I discover a new one that I really love.
There is ample street parking for this coffee shop, and the location in the heart of Rapid City is conveniently located to everything you want to visit while in town, plus it's well-located for a convenient stop as part of an easy jaunt out of town to explore the spectacular Black Hills. After enjoying a bite at Alternative Fuel, I recommend heading over to the nearby South Dakota State Railroad Museum or just hit up some hiking in the Black Hills.
