Austin’s most iconic pool-meets-swimming hole, Barton Springs is spring fed, as the name implies.

Open year round, the natural pool maintains an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, which some swimmers find too chilly even in the heart of summer, but the little ones seem to love it! Featuring more natural elements found along the bottom – a little slime, a few rocks – this pool is kid-approved and floatie-friendly so little swimmers wont want to get out. Lifeguards are on deck as well, but the space can get crowded, especially on weekends so its best to keep a close eye on your swimmer.

Picnics are welcome, but glass bottles and dogs are not. Restrooms can be found onsite and are considerably clean for serving outdoor swimmers. Night swim is also a popular Austin outing, but better for older kids. A handful of food options can be found a short drive or 15-minute walk away, including Juiceland for pricey but delicious smoothies and Chuy's Tex-Mex – perfect for chips and salsa post swim.
