Don't miss a chance to kick back at B.C. Brewery!
B.C. Brewery is the total package. With excellent beer, delicious food, and a place for the kids to play, it’s a place that kids and parents will both enjoy.
The taproom features a “beer wall” where patrons can self-serve. When you first arrive, you’ll give a credit card (they don’t take cash) to a bartender and be given a tap card in return. When you want a beer, take your tap card to the beer wall and insert it next to the beer you’d like to try. Then pour yourself as much or as little brew as you want! I’ll be honest, I was skeptical at first, but it turns out that the beer wall is great! It means that you don’t have to wait in line for a bartender to wait on you and you can do small samples of all of the beers that you want.
B.C. Brewery also serves food. Their menu varies but we were told that tacos and fries are always available. A note: the food is excellent but they don’t have a dedicated children’s menu. They don’t technically allow outside food but the bartender told us that they would look the other way if a parent brought a little food for a picky child. I wouldn’t try to pack a whole picnic or bring in food from another restaurant, but the next time we go I’ll probably stick a peanut butter and jelly in my bag for the kids.
The brewery is housed in a large warehouse-type facility. When you first walk in, you’ll be in the “family area”. There is a small open space in the corner that has a playhouse, chalk wall and corn hole that the kids can play with. You’ll also find high chairs and booster seats in this area. They ask that parents stay with their kids and supervise, but that wasn’t a problem as there are plenty of tables surrounding the play area where parents can sit. We brought some coloring books and crayons as well as a couple of friends for the kids, and they happily played for the whole two hours that we were there.
Children under the age of 14 are prohibited from entering the back part of the taproom. The brewery maintains the area as a dedicated “child-free” space so that patrons that don’t want scamps running around can enjoy their beers in peace. Children are also not allowed in any part of the brewery past 9 pm. Another thing to know, dogs are allowed in the brewery (on leashes). The kids loved petting all the furry friends, but it may be problematic for anyone with a serious dog phobia.
Finally, for those families with older kids (or if you go without the kids!), they also have a ton of games that you can borrow (they’ll hold onto your ID while you have the game). When we were there they had giant Connect 4, Uno, playing cards, Boggle, and Bananagrams, among others. Overall, B.C. Brewery is a great pick for families!
