An Interesting and Easy 2-Mile Loop through Red Cedars.
Cedars of Lebanon State Park is only ~40 minutes from downtown Nashville, located near Mount Juliet/Lebanon area, and is a great day trip for Nashvillian families. You can loop through one of the largest groves of Red Cedars in the US and see interesting limestone "sinks" as well as fun rock formations (my daughters thought they looked like the troll rocks in 'Frozen' so there was much fun and imagination play).
This is not going to be an iconic trail of middle Tennessee, but we liked it because it was quiet, easy, and had interesting natural formations along the trail - rocks, sinkholes, moss, and cedar trees.
The trail is just past the entrance gates and welcome center. Near the parking lot there are sheltered pavilions for picnicking. You'll park and then cross the road to start the 2-mile trail. It's an easy one but starts with a tad of elevation if you go counter-clockwise (our choice).
On a weekday morning, we were the only family on the trail.
On your way back to Nashville, stop by the HUGE Charlie Daniels Park for a great playground.
Note: Dogs are ok on leash.
