Double Rock Park in Parkville, MD is Baltimore County's hiking hidden gem!

Double Rock Park provides miles of hiking trails, baseball, and football fields, as well as two nice playgrounds. When you arrive at Double Rock Park you’ll find yourself in the lower parking lot. From there you can access one of the playgrounds as well as a couple of trail heads. (Check out the trail map posted in the back corner of the lower parking lot to see the features of each trail).

You’ll find one trailhead at the corner of the parking lot next to the trail map; reach the other by walking down the steps and across the bridge. You’ll see a paved path on the right hand side that leads into the woods. This trail will take you to a large stream, complete with small waterfalls. The paved portion of the trail ends after about a quarter mile. Crossing the wide stream is an option to continue on the natural surface trails on the other side.

To explore the back portion of the park, follow the road up the hill about 100 yards to the upper parking lot. You’ll find another playground space and more trailheads in this section of the park. To access the trails, continue to the farthest parking lot where you’ll find a pavilion with a fireplace. The trailhead is directly to the left of the pavilion.

The trails are quite extensive and offer lots of picturesque views of the water, however, some water crossings and steep inclines can be expected on all paths so you’ll want to choose footwear accordingly.

Picnic tables and trash cans are spread outh throughout the park, but there are no bathroom facilities.

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
