Gorgeous views of not one, not two, but FIVE waterfalls!
Just 50 minutes south of Asheville, DuPont State Forest is home to 5 waterfalls in one location. High Falls, Triple Falls, Hooker Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Grassy Creek Falls give you amazing views that you're not going to want to miss. There are two locations to park to see the falls. Parking location depends on if you want a long or short hike. We decided to park in the small lot near Hooker Falls at the bottom of all the falls.
We hiked up the Triple Falls trail (0.4 miles). You can take steps down to see the Triple Falls easily and even walk down on the rocks. Be aware when it has rained recently this area will be closed off and it is slick when wet so take caution when going out there. Then we connected to the High Falls loop (2.0 miles) to see the High Falls and the covered bridge above the falls. This was definitely a moderate hike with a good uphill trek. These trails are nice and wide and mostly gravel.
Once at the top we took the backside down on the High Falls loop to get different scenery back down to the Triple Falls trail. This trail also connects you to Hooker Falls which is a short distance (0.3 miles) away from the parking lot. If you don’t want to do a big hike up to the High Falls, you can park at the top at the High Falls Access. Both parking lots have bathrooms and maps to look at before heading out.
There are several picnic areas along the trail so pack a lunch or some snacks and take a break to enjoy the views. The Grassy Creek Falls is about 1.5 miles from the High Falls parking lot. Bridal Veil Falls is not easily accessible unless you are in for a good day hike out to it. From the High Falls parking, it’s approximately 3 miles one way with several trails leading to these falls. Bridal Veil Falls is on our bucket list.
DuPont State Forest has a visitor center to visit and answer any questions you may have before hiking. As always check with the website for any closures or trail information before planning your visit. This is a great family-friendly hike that everyone can enjoy. Parts of these trails could be jogger stroller friendly but I always recommend bringing a carrier instead.
