Soak in some history and get a great view of the Nashville skyline!
We had a couple of hours this morning between thunderstorms and so we headed to Fort Negley. It's about a mile-long walk through an important Civil War fort. What I loved about Fort Negley is that it combined history with good views and an easy, family-friendly walk (~1 mile).
A bonus is there are sheep who provide natural grounds maintenance. My kids loved looking at them. Another bonus: there was no one there but my family! While I do think the area needs more investment to really preserve the historic site, it's worth visiting and could make a great stop before or after a visit to the Adventure Science Center.
There are picnic tables and an information center (that was closed on a Sunday) but there are several informative signs along the way that tell you about the importance of the area. If you are looking for a field trip for your kids, I'd highly recommend mixing history with fresh air here. We spent about an hour in total.
Caution: sheep are behind electric fences - do not touch the fences! And do not climb on the historic stone.
