A hidden gem for camping in South Carolina.
Lee State Park is 2800 acres of mostly bottomland hardwood forest wetlands. It offers family and equestrian camping along with hiking trails, equestrian trails, and a boardwalk that gives you views of the swampland. There are also 4 artesian wells, a swimming pond, and fishing. There are 25 standard campsites (electric and water), and 23 campsites for equestrian camping. Each site comes with a picnic table and fire ring. These sites are spacious, and the loop is perfect to watch kids bike. You can see them around the whole loop. The road however is made with sand and gravel.
Activities around the area include the visitor center, bird watching, and geocaching in the park. In the summer, the swimming pond located just down the road from the campground is a great way to cool off. There is a designated area to swim, leaving the rest of the pond for fishing. Located near the swimming hole are a small nature hike and one of the artesian wells. We also found some of the biggest pine cones we have ever seen.
Lee State Park is a great, affordable campground to relax and unwind for the weekend.
