A fabulous local highlight in Austin that also happens to be a historic landmark!

Austin’s highest point (at 775 feet) is an instant crowd-pleaser with killer views of the city and the Colorado River below. Surrounded by limestone (Austin’s favorite rock), live oak (Austin's favorite tree), ash juniper, persimmon, and mountain laurel, the short – but steep – walk up is also easy on the eyes. And, like most spots in Austin, it’s dog friendly. No wonder it's both a Texas Historic Landmark and found on the National Register of Historic Places.

There are about 100 stairs to climb all the way to the top, so, depending on your kids' athleticism, some younger legs might have a hard time making the trek and strollers will definitely not make the journey. With that warning out of the way, be assured, it's a short hike up, with a few easy trails to explore once you're up, so unless you're packing a picnic (we highly recommend going for sunset and eating dinner with a view of the river), it won't be a long excursion.
