Spend your morning in Dupont!

The Dupont Circle Neighborhood’s mix of residential and commercial real estate in the heart of Washington DC generates plenty of options for family-friendly fun that falls right into our happyly wheelhouse.

Start your day with a coffee from Dolcezza Gelato and Coffee at 1704 Connecticut Avenue NW or Emissary at 2032 P Street NW. If you need something a little more substantial, grab a full breakfast at Kramer Books & Afterwords Cafe, a fabulous independent bookstore with a casual bistro that has a dining room.

Walk over to the circle afterward and have some fun running around the fountain, chasing squirrels, or climbing trees. When you’re ready for a change of scenery, stroll along P Street and over the bridge to one of our favorite parks in the area, Rose Park. The home of the best sandbox in the city, there are also two different playground areas.

If you want to finish your morning in Dupont Circle with a treat, don’t miss the delicious Hawaiian shaved ice at Tiki Taco on P Street or to continue your journey with a take-out lunch option, drop by popular and kid-friendly Surfside Dupont.

Other spots to check out in the Dupont Circle area include Mitchell Park on 23rd Street and the newly renovated playground at Ross Elementary School on R Street.  Alternately, Embassy Row is right off of Dupont Circle, and it's fun to walk the iron gates and see the many countries represented there.

If you feel like taking a walk in nature, access the paved bike trail in Rock Creek Park from P Street just over the Lauzun’s Legion Bridge heading toward Georgetown. Make a left on the access road that leads down to the bike path and then another left on to the trail itself. You’ll start your stroll with Rock Creek on your right-hand side.

You can do a nice loop that will take you up to Calvert Street using Shoreham Drive, or you can circle back on the wooded trail parallel to the paved trail on the opposite side of the creek. You’ll see the entrance to the unpaved trail just over the footbridge before you start the uphill climb to Calvert Street.

If you’re in Dupont Circle on a Sunday, do not miss the Freshfarm Dupont Circle Farmer’s Market (1600 20th Street), open from 8:30 am to 1 pm.
