The North Carolina Zoo is the largest natural habitat zoo in the world!

Only 1.5 away from Charlotte in Asheboro, the NC Zoo has 500 acres of amazing exhibits. With over 1,800 animals and 52,000 plants, you walk from Africa’s grasslands to North America’s Arctic coast.

This is one of our favorite places to visit. The animals are generally out and there are plenty of keeper chats to learn more about the animals. The staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful.

They have a big kids zone with a play creek (chlorinated water), mud kitchen, water paints, habitat-making area, and suspension bridge to walk. They even do storytime to learn about different animals. My kids could spend most of their time just in this area. There is also a playground that looks like a garden. They also have a rope and zip line course near the middle of the park.

If you plan to go more than once a year as a family, and purchase a membership, you will save money. Check out their website for more information on this.
