If you need a spot for free, indoor fun you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better spot than the library. The Owings Mills Branch of Baltimore County Public Library is one of the newest branches, and it shows. Nestled in Metro Center at Owings Mills, the library is one of the cornerstones of a small but bustling business and community complex that includes shops, restaurants, public transit, and a movie theater.

The library is beautiful inside. With multiple floors of magazines, games, books, and more you are guaranteed to leave with an armload of goodies. The children’s area is huge and self-contained within glass walls. That means parents can let little ones play without fear of them running off or disturbing the quiet of the library.

Within the children’s section, families can choose from a huge collection of children’s books and magazines, including board books for babies. There is also a fabulous variety of great toys for kids to play with during their visit including blocks, a play kitchen, puzzles, and more. For older kids, computers that are preloading with educational software are also available. If you’ve got a baby or toddler, check out the back alcove of the children’s area, which has been reserved for babies.

There is plenty of free parking on the street as well as in garages. After you’re done at the library, stop at any one of the many restaurants in Metro Center to grab a bite to eat. If they don’t have anything to suit your tastes, take a quick drive to Foundry Row for even faster casual options!

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
