If you’re looking for a great place where you can spend a couple of hours with the kids on the cheap, you’re hard-pressed to find a better place than the library. Between great books and fun toys, the library has everything you need to give the kids an afternoon of learning and fun. Throw in storytime and you’ve got the trifecta!

Perry Hall is one of our favorite libraries to play at in the Baltimore County Library System. They’ve got a huge selection of books, CDs, and movies that can be borrowed for free, plus kids can play with a huge variety of fabulous toys while you’re there, including dramatic play items, blocks, and trains.

Our favorite feature of the Perry Hall Branch is the separate dramatic play area. The enclosed room features a miniature grocery store as well as a kitchen area. Kids can get together to buy groceries at the market and then take them home to cook them. We love this as an option for kids that need to get into the community and socialize with other children. The best part is that the room is completely enclosed. That means that little ones can’t wander and adults don’t have to worry that playful kids are disturbing the quiet of the library.

If your little one needs to get some energy out after your indoor adventure, the library is also right across the street from Angel Park. Just walk across the parking lot to enjoy some playtime or an outdoor picnic!

We can’t say enough good things about the library options in Baltimore. If you’ve never taken advantage of this amazing free resource in the county, we recommend putting it on your to-do list!

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
