Reed Gold Mine is a gold-winning place to enjoy the day.

A hidden gem just 30 minutes outside of Charlotte, the Reed Gold Mine is a fun place to explore. With a visitor center, 19th-century mine, stamp mill, panning for gold and a historical trail, there is plenty to see. This mine is one of the oldest in US History.

At the visitor center, you can learn about the history of mining in this area. They also have a history trail with lots of signs to read about the different parts of mining. We had a picnic outside the mine entrance for some natural air conditioning while we ate. The trail around the area is around 2 miles long and is an easy hike for all ages. Most of the area around the mine and trail are jogging-type and stroller-friendly.

The website has information on the history of educators and would make a perfect outing for homeschooling families.
