Reedy Creek is an amazing nature preserve within Charlotte.
Reedy Creek Nature Preserve protects 927 acres of natural, forested habitat within Reedy Creek Park. There are over 10 miles of hiking trails in the nature preserve that allows visitors to explore a variety of terrains while enjoying scenic views of small lakes, forests, fields, streams, and wildlife. These trails are great for every age and are well-marked and maintained. Reedy Creek Park has several playgrounds, baseball fields, a basketball court, ponds to fish, and a dog park.
The nature center is at the end of the road and signs will point you in the right direction. One of our favorite trails in the park is called the Umbrella Tree (loop) Trail. It starts from behind the nature center. This one is perfect for little ones to get started in hiking as it’s less than a mile and has a few hills. This is perfect for homeschool lessons on birding, stream studies, wildlife spotting, and more. Plus, the nature-inspired playground is waiting to be explored when you are done.
Bring a lunch or snacks to eat and hang out at the nature playground.
