Great place to stop and play when school is not in session at Waverly Belmont.

School playgrounds are open to the public when school is not in session!

If you are shopping or eating in the 12 South area, you can always head to the popular Sevier Park, a neighborhood favorite.  However, if you are near Ladybird Tacos or don't want to walk all the way to the edge of the neighborhood to get to Sevier, there's a great playground alternative on the Waverly Belmont School grounds.  The schoolyard playground is a bright pink and blue playground just behind the building that's relatively new and in great shape. It's very accessible and can be used whenever school is not in session.  The equipment is, unsurprisingly, suitable for elementary-aged kids!  There are a couple of slides, a climbing feature, and some swings. We were actually surprised to find quite a few families (mostly those that live in the 12 South neighborhood) enjoying the equipment on a recent weekend.

In addition to the playground, the Waverly Belmont PTO recently built a more natural play space next door to the regular playground. In this nature play area, there's a Sound Garden, tall grass maze, balance beam/climbing structure, and natural play structure with a tunnel, slide and climbing wall in addition to an outdoor classroom area.

Across the pavement, there's a pretty sizeable green space to throw frisbees and run around.

Sevier Park is certainly expansive, huge, and iconic - but this is a convenient gem tucked away right behind all the action in the main part of the eating and shopping district.
