Go visit this cute park and explore North Nashville!

Kossie Gardner, Sr. Park is a small pocket park in North Nashville, off of Jefferson St. and 16th.  It’s a small park, but makes for a great hang and is close to so many other fun stops. It has a small ladder/climbing bride, slide, and tunnel. There’s also a large grassy lawn and some boulders nearby. The city is planning on continuing to add to the park to make it a place for live music and other events.

There is no gate separating the park from Jefferson Street and although it’s set back a way, just be aware. While you may not stay and hang here for hours, it’s worth checking out and you’re next to some other fun North Nashville hangs. Fisk University is a beautiful and historic campus right up the street. Slim and Husky’s is a delicious pizza place about 5 minutes away. You're also five minutes away from Bicentennial Park and the Farmers’ Market.

North Nashville has a rich history and Jefferson Street used to be one of America’s best-known music scenes. Everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Ray Charles played here. In the 60s, the city tragically built an interstate right through the neighborhood, displacing many businesses and families. This park is a small tribute to this rich and complex history and is named after the business owner and entrepreneur Kossie Gardner, Jr.  Read more on a brief history of North Nashville and Kossie Gardner, Sr. here.
