Waterwell Park really has so many delights to offer, from formal ball games to nature hikes, you can find it all here.

We really enjoyed a visit to Waterwell Park while exploring Kansas City. All the parks and nature areas we visited here were so distinct from each other, which made it so fun. Yet, I still feel like we got a great overall feel for KC, despite not being in town too long.

Waterwell Park was a really interesting one, and part of the reason why is because when I read about it, I got a whole different understanding of this park, from having just visited it. I think the reason why our experience was so atypical is that we visited this park in what's definitely the off-season for this particular park.

Waterwell Park is known for being a quite bustling, popular park, mainly for football and baseball game held at the many fields here. It actually features a pretty large athletic complex for summer sports.

Now, the interesting part is what we actually found during winter at Waterwell. We found peaceful nature, a beautiful trail, and the unexpected joy of a choo-choo coming by the park. The kids loved it! The walk into the park featured a winter wonderland trail of fresh snow through a wooded area. While the trail was pretty short, there was so much snow that it definitely felt longer. We watched birds in the woods along the trail (including beautiful appearances from both a cardinal, as well as some blue jays!). When we arrived at the clearing, we played in the snow and watched a beautiful sunset. Then, we were happily surprised to find a train going by the far end of the park. We're a train-loving family, so this was a thrill for the kids!

We recommend a visit to this park, but keep in mind, depending on what you're looking for, the vibe is far different here, depending on the season.

After enjoying plenty of fun at Waterwell Park, head over to the Corner Cafe for some delicious eats!
