Year-round opportunities for fun and exercise plus a pool in the warmer months.
Riverside Park, in the heart of South Baltimore, was originally used as a lookout during the War of 1812 due to its proximity to the Patapsco River. Today, it’s home to a wide variety of recreational activities for families to enjoy. The grounds feature a fenced-in playground with swings, slides, and climbing equipment for older and younger children. The park also has two basketball courts, a softball diamond, and two athletic fields.
If you’re looking to enjoy green space, you can stroll along the sidewalks that weave throughout the park or take a break in the covered gazebo atop the hill. Riverside is also home to a large swimming pool – fenced in, the swim space also features a small kiddie area for little ones to enjoy. Prices for the current season as well as a schedule can be found here by clicking on “Riverside”.
Recently, the park received several grants and plans to add additional amenities including an adult fitness area, enhanced walking and running paths, and a parking lot. Free Street Parking is currently available on Johnson and Covington Streets, which border the park. Bathrooms are only available within the pool house and are not accessible to those not utilizing the swimming facilities.
Locust Point is rich with family opportunities. If you get hungry (or thirsty) after all that playing, Iron Rooster and Diamondback Brewing are a short drive way in McHenry Row! You could even grab takeout and bring it to the park for a picnic. If you want even MORE opportunities to play or even a place to go swimming, Latrobe Park is also closeby!
